Why join OCF?
Do you want to be an effective ambassador for Jesus Christ in
the military society? Do you need to integrate profession, faith, and
family more effectively? Do you desire authentic Christian fellowship with
others in the military community? Is your heart moved by a vision for personal
ministry at your duty station? If the answer to any of these questions is
"Yes!", then we invite you to prayerfully consider becoming a part of this
dynamic movement in the military.
The following services are available to members:
- A worldwide Linkup program
of contacts for Christian fellowship at new duty stations and during
travel.
- Conference center facilities and programs at
Spring Canyon, Colorado, and at
White Sulphur Springs,
Pennsylvania.
- Command magazine, sent
free to members ten times a year. It contains articles on Christianity and
military life, plus news reports of OCF people and events, and daily prayer
requests from members.
- Other publications,
including books, topical booklets, and
brochures, that address the specifics of life, leadership and ministry in the
armed forces.
- Staff-led ministries at the service academies and at
important military centers, such as
Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and Maxwell Air Force Base,
Alabama.
- A nationally-coordinated outreach to ROTC units.
- Regional staff who travel to teach, encourage and counsel
local leaders and other members.
- Regional conferences to equip and encourage leaders for more
effective OCF outreach and service.
Who may join OCF?
Anyone sincerely able to sign the Statement of
Faith and Participation may become a member of OCF. There are two categories of
membership:
- Any present or former officer or warrant officer in the U.S.
Armed Forces, and anyone training for a commission, may become a regular
member.
- Others who share OCF's purpose and vision may join as
associate members. This includes enlisted men and women as well as spouses of
military personnel and civilians.
Who are we?
The Officers' Christian Fellowship (OCF) of the
U.S.A. was formed in 1943, in the midst of World War II. God has used OCF
powerfully for His purposes ever since, in peace and in war. Today, we are
Christians from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces who are united by our
faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. We are committed to living out our
faith in the military society.
The local OCF fellowship
- OCF members and their families form local fellowships on
military installations, in neighborhoods, at academies and ROTC detachments, on
board Navy and Coast Guard vessels, and while deployed on operations and
exercises. These fellowships may consist of only two persons, or of several
study groups, and are often part of a military chapel program. These
fellowships help participants grow in their love for God, integrate that love
in their personal lives, discover God's direction, follow that direction, and
glorify God in all they do.
- OCF has a small national lay leadership team. It consists of
the governing council (twenty-one military officers elected by the regular
members) and a small staff that motivates, equips and supports OCF members and
local fellowships.
Spiritual Pillars of OCF OCF's
spiritual pillars reflect the biblical principles that stand at the center of
the ministry:
- We are a lay movement within the military.
- We stress the importance of individual and corporate Bible
study.
- We rely on prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
- We consider authentic biblical fellowship essential for
individual growth and for the advancement of God's Kingdom within the military.
- We are committed to the spiritual development of our members;
we support them in godly service and outreach within the military.
- We call Christian officers to integrate biblical standards of
excellence in their professional performance.
- We encourage, support, and assist military families as they
attempt to live out biblical principles of marriage and parenthood.
- We seek to support and encourage Christian chaplains.
